Grooming and poodle coat care

The Poodle is a breed with a soft, curly, dense coat that can be any colour and requires regular maintenance to keep it healthy and shiny.

Bathing and brushing for an impeccable curly coat:

- Daily brushing to prevent tangles: Due to the curly nature of its coat, it is crucial to brush the Poodle daily. Reducing the frequency to three or four times a week can worsen the condition of the coat and make detangling more difficult. To carry out this routine, it is recommended that the coat be sprayed with a daily moisturiser to provide elasticity, prevent breakage and facilitate detangling. Then brush with a carder, separating the hair into layers, and finish with a metal-tooth comb for a flawless finish.

The frequency of bathing will depend on the size of the poodle. Toys and Dwarf varieties are recommended to be bathed every one to two weeks, while larger poodles (medium and giant) can be bathed once or twice a month. Before bathing, it is important to untangle the coat to facilitate the process, as knots may be more difficult to untangle if this initial step is omitted (following the previously explained steps)..

Once the coat is untangled, wet the coat thoroughly and apply the shampoo, distributing it over the whole body and gently massaging the poodle's skin. If necessary, a hair mask can be used.

-For drying, it is recommended to use a towel to remove excess water and then dry with a hairdryer, using a flexible carding or spiked brush to comb and open the coat at the same time. In addition, bath time is the perfect time to check that your poodle's nails, ears and teeth are in good condition.

At Animal Park, the poodle is a highly prized and well cared for breed. We specialise in a variety of cuts, both scissor and machine, sculpting the coat and creating volume, especially on the legs and heads. The most requested cut by our clients is the teddy cut, but we also do classic poodle cuts, continental cuts, puppy cuts and many more.

The Poodle allows us to explore our creativity and hairdressing skills, as the play with volume gives us the opportunity to create unique and personalised cuts. This breed is one of our favourites because of the versatility and inspiration it offers to create different styles and looks.

We recommend bringing your poodle to the groomer every 4 to 6 weeks to keep his coat in top condition. This time interval ensures that the coat is kept clean, untangled and neatly trimmed. Our professional grooming team will be happy to care for and beautify your poodle at every visit, ensuring he looks great and feels comfortable and happy.

Trust us to give your Poodle the care and style it deserves!
